The tesseract in Heinlein’s story connects rooms in the house to other locations far away. The discussion of the tesseract in The Science of Interstellar bears little resemblance to the ideas in the short story by Heinlein. All that came out of that was a series of excruciatingly intense headaches and a profound appreciation of geometry. The adventures of the architect and the owners as they explore the tesseract are hilarious. On entering the house, it is soon determined that the earthquake collapsed the 3D design into a real hypercube. On showing the house to the new owner shortly after an earthquake, the outside of the house is discovered to be very different than the design. 7 The story revolves around an architect who designs a house in the shape of an “unfolded” hypercube. (Not the figure – the definition?)Īgain – figures are often only ONE example that fits the problem – but they do not show every example. In regard to tesseracts, I remember in my distant youth reading a short story written by Robert A. ![]() Don’t trust anything but the defined statements in the problem and marked items in a figure. While the lengths in the figure look similar (or even equal), we don’t know that they really are similar or equal. So for problem # 29 we know the following: If it doesn’t tell you, you don’t know it. You only know what you are given in the definition. I have worked the problem, I know what the answer should be, but given the figure, I don’t understand how that could be false. I’m having trouble with Chapter 5, Lesson 1, Problem 29.
